Charlton Kings is mostly 1930s semis and inter-war detached houses along Cirencester Road, Croft Road and the lanes running up towards the hills. Frontages are deep enough for two cars, and many still carry the original concrete drive with a central strip of moss, or a tarmac layer added on top of it decades ago.
Because the land rises towards Ham and Coltham, drives here often fall towards the house or the road, so we set the falls and put a channel at the threshold where it is needed. If the kerb has to change, yes. Gloucestershire County Council approves vehicle crossings, and on the busier stretch of Cirencester Road they look closely at sightlines.
Not as a shortcut. Surfacing over failed concrete moves the problem up a layer. If the new surface is not permeable and drains to the road, it also needs planning permission over five square metres.
Breaking out and carting away old concrete adds time, so allow four to six days for a double drive, three to four for a single.
