Driveways in Cirencester

Cirencester's centre is Cotswold stone and conservation area, with Georgian and Victorian frontages around Dollar Street, Coxwell Street and Park Street where parking is at a premium and forecourts are small. Stone setts, gravel and resin-bound in a local aggregate suit those houses and keep the frontage in character.

The estates out at Chesterton, Stratton and The Beeches are a different job: standard modern plots with block paving or tarmac, most now twenty to forty years old and sunken at the kerb. Ground here is often shallow soil over Cotswold brash, which drains well but breaks up under load, so the sub-base has to be graded and compacted properly rather than tipped and levelled.
