Prestbury has some of the oldest frontages we work on. Thatched and stone cottages along the High Street and Mill Street sit tight to the road with narrow gravel or stone forecourts, and the surface has to look right against Cotswold stone. Sandstone, limestone setts and gravel over a bound base all suit these houses better than a large-format modern block.
Away from the village centre, the roads towards Southam and the racecourse hold larger detached homes with long drives, turning circles and mature planting. It can. Work in the curtilage of a listed building or inside the conservation area may need consent, and the surface choice matters more. We keep to materials that suit the building and tell you when you should speak to the council first.
The same national rule applies: over five square metres of non-permeable surface draining to the road needs planning permission. Gravel and resin-bound both avoid that, and both look right on village frontages.
A cottage forecourt can be done in two to three days. A long drive with a turning area, new edgings and root-safe excavation is usually a week to ten days.
