Driveways in Gloucester

Gloucester is mostly two jobs. Central streets in Tredworth, Barton and Kingsholm are Victorian terraces with a few metres of frontage between the bay window and the pavement, often railings and a tiled path. There is rarely room for a car, so the work is paths, small forecourts and hardstanding where a wall can come out. Out at Abbeymead, Abbeydale and Longlevens the plots are 1970s and 1980s, with wider drives that have sunk at the kerb end or cracked across the middle.

Ground here is often clay with a high water table near the docks and the Severn, so drainage decides the build. That means a deeper dig-out, a clean stone sub-base and a drain or permeable surface rather than a tidy layer over the old tarmac.
