Questions
Yes. A new or widened vehicle crossing needs approval from Gloucestershire County Council as highway authority, and the kerb work itself is done by an approved contractor. We tell you where you stand before quoting the drive, and we lay the drive to meet the crossing once it is in.
If the surface is permeable, or the water runs to a lawn, border or soakaway inside your boundary, a front drive is normally permitted development. Non-permeable surfaces over five square metres draining to the road do need permission. Conservation areas in central Cheltenham can carry extra conditions, so we check the surface choice with you first.
A single drive is usually three to four days, a double four to six. Regency forecourts with restricted access take longer because muck-away and materials have to be barrowed. We give you the day count with the quote and tell you which days your access is affected.
